A better sleep setup at home

Start with a pillow that matches how you sleep and a room that is actually dark. Bedding thread counts are a weaker clue than material and return policy.

If you sleep well in one hotel and poorly in another, the difference is often the pillow, the temperature, and whether the room is dark. You can copy the useful parts at home without copying a luxury brand.

Buy a pillow you can return after a few nights. Side sleepers usually need more loft than back sleepers. A beautiful sham does not hold your neck. The insert does.

Keep the test honest

Change one thing at a time. A new pillow and a new mattress and a new routine in the same week will not tell you what worked. Wash bedding the way you are willing to wash it. If it must be dry-cleaned, you will use it less.

A fan or a quieter room helps more than a speaker that plays stories, for many people. Spend on the room before you spend on an app.

Hotel notes that mention noise are collected in how to read hotel reviews. If you are buying this as a gift, the holiday gift guide is the wider list.
