Small kitchen tools worth buying

Buy the tool you will use every week. A kettle, a sharp knife, or the right pan beats a machine that does a job your stove already does.

Small kitchen purchases are easy to justify and easy to bury in a drawer. The test is weekly use. A kettle you switch on every morning earns the counter. A gadget for a recipe you made once does not.

Look at the heat source before you buy a pan. Induction wants a magnetic base. Nonstick wants low heat and a soft utensil, and it will wear out, so buy the size you use rather than the largest one on the page.

Price and storage

A good tool at full price that you will keep is cheaper than a sale item you will give away. Check the handle, the weight, and whether it is dishwasher safe if that is how you live. Hand-wash-only is honest. It is also how tools stop being used.

If you are buying for someone else, the kitchen gift guide is the shorter version of this page. For the rest of the house, home office setup and better sleep setup use the same idea: upgrade what you touch every day.
