Kitchen gifts go wrong when they are impressive and unused. A single pan in the size someone cooks, or a knife they will reach for, beats a device that makes one snack. Look at their kitchen if you can. A tiny cupboard cannot absorb a large machine, and a gas stove does not care about the same pan as an induction cooktop.

If you do not know the kitchen, buy a consumable they will finish or a tool with a widely useful size, and keep the receipt.

Kitchen gifts that get used

Specific beats complete

A "complete set" often duplicates what they own. Ask, or look, before you buy eight pieces. Wooden tools need hand washing. Nonstick needs a gentle utensil and will wear out, so it is a kind gift and not an heirloom.
