Holiday gift guide

Pick a budget, name the person, and buy one thing they will use the week they open it. Shipping date and the return window matter more than a tiny price gap.

Fare & Find may earn a commission if you book or buy through a link on this page. That does not change the price you pay. Affiliate disclosure.

The wrapping is the easy part. The useful object inside is the guide. Photo via Unsplash.

A holiday gift guide should make the choice smaller. Decide the person and the budget first. Then buy one thing that fits a life they already have: the kitchen they cook in, the trip they take, the coat they are replacing. A novelty that needs an explanation is a harder present than a tool they mentioned in October.

Prices move in December. The number to protect is the delivery date and whether you can return it in January without a scene.

How to shop the month

Order earlier than the banner suggests if the gift is a size. Clothing and shoes need a return path. Kitchen gifts should match the heat source they own. Travel gifts should match the airline limit if the gift is a bag.

If you are stuck, give a useful consumable in a size they will finish, rather than a gadget they have to store. Write what it is for in one sentence. If you cannot, it is probably not the gift.
