Singapore is compact, air-conditioned, and serious about the train. A hotel within a short covered walk of an MRT station will beat a slightly cheaper pin that leaves you in the humidity with luggage. Marina Bay is the postcard. Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar are often the better everyday base. Orchard is right if shopping is the reason for the trip.
The city is expensive in a steady way, with extra lift around the Formula 1 race and major holidays. Search your dates and compare totals before you convert them in your head.

Humidity makes a short outdoor walk feel longer. If you are traveling with family, read room size. Many well-located hotels are efficient rather than spacious. A pool is a genuine afternoon plan, not only a photo.
Breakfast included can be worth more here than in a city where you want a cafe at 8 a.m. If you would rather eat downstairs in Chinatown, do not pay for a hotel breakfast you will skip.
