Paris hotels are often beautiful and small. A "standard double" may be a room you and a suitcase share carefully. Read the square meters. If you need space, filter for it instead of hoping the photo is honest.
The city gets expensive when fashion weeks, trade shows, and school holidays overlap. A pretty rate in late January is not the rate in June. Search your real dates before you fall for a neighborhood.

What visitors misjudge
The arrondissement number is not a quality score. A quiet street in a central one can beat a famous street that does not sleep. Use the map at street level and the newest reviews that mention noise.
Strikes and metro closures happen. A hotel you can walk from is worth more on those days than a slightly cheaper hotel that depends on one line.
