South Beach is the scene and the resort fee. Brickell is the practical downtown. Winter is high season, and summer is hot, wet, and cheaper.

Miami's high season is the opposite of Europe's. December through April is when everyone wants the weather, and rates show it. Summer is hurricane season: hotter, wetter, and often cheaper. If you can travel in the edges of winter, say early December or late April, you get more of the point of the city.

South Beach hotels often add a daily resort fee. A Brickell rate with no fee can win even when the nightly number looks higher. Do the total.

Miami areas to compare

Do not skip the extras

Parking in South Beach can erase a careful rate comparison. If you are not driving, ignore hotels that are mostly charging for a garage you will not use, and do not stay so far inland that every beach hour needs a car.

Noise on Ocean Drive is the product. Book it if you want that. Book a side street or a different neighborhood if you do not.

The fee guide is resort fees explained. For another winter-sun city with fees, see Honolulu hotel deals.
