Waikiki is the walkable hotel neighborhood. A quieter district wins if you will drive. Winter holidays are the expensive weeks, and the resort fee belongs in the total.

Honolulu's hotel decision is mostly Waikiki versus not. Waikiki is dense, walkable, and priced as the place visitors sleep near the water. A partial ocean view and a full ocean view are different products. Read which one the rate buys.
If the trip is a loop around the island by car, a Waikiki premium only helps in the evenings. If the trip is the beach and restaurants, pay for Waikiki and skip the car.

Fees, seasons, rain
Resort fees are common and should be in the comparison. Parking is another daily charge if you rent a car and leave it in a garage. Winter holidays and Japanese holiday weeks fill the beach hotels. Shoulder weeks are kinder.
Showers are normal. A mountain-side room and an ocean-side room can have different wind and noise. Read the side of the building.
