Cameras for a city trip

If the phone already takes the pictures you share, do not buy a camera for a city weekend. If you want control, buy one body and one lens you will carry.

A city trip does not require a new camera. It requires a camera you will have with you when the light is good. For many people that is the phone. Buying a larger kit and leaving it in the hotel is a common, expensive way to take the same phone photos.

If you want more control, buy the smallest kit you will actually wear. One lens that covers a normal street view is enough. A second lens is a plan for a different trip.

What to carry

Cost beyond the body

Lenses, a spare battery, and a card add up. So does the bag. If the kit no longer fits a personal item, you have changed the flight, not only the photos. Price that honestly.

Used bodies from a reputable seller can be the right buy when the shutter count is disclosed and the return window exists. A marketplace listing with no return is a hobby, not a deal.

Timing sits on the electronics deal calendar. The bag question is laptop backpacks or weekender bags, depending on what else you carry.
